TREATED IN DULUTH, GA (NORTH OF ATLANTA) at Georgia Eye Physicians & Surgeons
Commonly used to decrease inflammation in the eye, steroid injections are effective in treating certain types of inflammatory and retinal diseases. Using a very fine needle, potent anti-inflammatory agents, steroid injections are administered through the wall of the eye into the vitreous cavity to prevent the leaking of fluid from abnormal or damaged blood vessels in the retina. The injected steroids decrease the breakdown of the blood-retinal barrier and are linked to the improvement of vision loss caused from blockages within the retina’s blood vessels. As an alternative to laser therapy, steroid injections can successfully treat retinal conditions from macular edema to diabetic retinopathy to vein occlusions within the retina.
