Chalazion

TREATED IN DULUTH, GA (NORTH OF ATLANTA) at Georgia Eye Physicians & Surgeons

A chalazion is a small lump that forms on the eyelid due to the blockage of oil secretions. The meibomian gland (oil-producing gland) becomes enlarged and can grow to become the size of a pea. Individuals often confuse a chalazion with a stye, which also appear as a bump on the eyelid. However, a stye is caused by an infected eyelash follicle.

Chalazion symptoms can sometimes be treated with warm compress, antibiotic ointments, or steroid injections. If the chalazion does not respond to these treatments and/or affects vision, Dr. Segal may recommend surgical removal. Under local anesthesia, the chalazion is surgically drained.

If you would like to learn more about chalazion, styes, or other eye conditions please call our office to schedule an appointment.
