PRK Surgery

PERFORMED IN DULUTH, GA (NORTH OF ATLANTA) at Georgia Eye Physicians & Surgeons

Photorefractive keratectomy, commonly referred to as PRK surgery, is a laser eye surgery technique used to address mild to moderate vision problems including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and/or astigmatism. Accounting for 10% of our laser vision correction procedures, PRK is often performed as an alternative to LASIK surgery for those patients who do not desire a surgery where a flap is created in the corneal tissue. While both methods are safe and effective, PRK surgery has a slightly lower risk of reoperation than LASIK surgery.

PRK surgery adjusts the cornea to properly focus light onto the retina and improve vision. Board-certified ophthalmologist Dr. Segal reshapes the surface of the cornea with an ultraviolet light laser. This highly effective surgery is especially helpful for patients with nearsightedness. This advanced laser technique is performed in-office with local anesthesia and can generally be done in both eyes in less than thirty minutes. As with any surgical procedure, follow-up appointments are imperative for proper healing.

Through a pre-surgery consultation and eye exam, Dr. Segal will discuss realistic results you can expect from PRK surgery as it relates to your specific vision needs.
