Meet Our December 2018 Spotlight Patient: Marlene

At Georgia Eye Physicians & Surgeons, we’re proud of the fantastic relationships we’ve earned with our patients over the years. I believe we’ve been so successful, both as a medical service and a business, because we sincerely care about helping people. We can’t hide our enthusiasm when a patient wants to share his or her story, and we’re excited to bring you our last spotlight patient of 2018: Marlene.

We first met Marlene about nine years ago, when one of her neighbors recommended Georgia Eye after she and her husband had just moved to Atlanta. Marlene had cataract surgery with Dr. William Segal, and she’s been a patient and friend ever since.

After her treatment, Marlene is seeing much better. “My vision improved from the surgery,” she says. “All of my hobbies also improved, even though I still need to use my readers. But my driving is good with no glasses.” This gives her the time and energy to do the things she loves to do—she may be officially retired, but Marlene stays busy. “I enjoy quilting, reading, doing crossword puzzles, spending time with my grandchildren, and traveling,” she says. With all those activities, Marlene’s lucky that eye-related medical technology and expertise have come so far. While Marlene doesn’t need any other eye procedures now, she says she’d “definitely choose Dr. Segal again” if she ever does, and that she’ll continue to see Dr. Lay and Dr. Segal.

Recently, Marlene came back to Georgia Eye to see Dr. Lay about an eye infection. Dr. Lay did some tests and prescribed medication to cure the infection. After their appointment, he called Marlene to tell her that he didn’t like what the tests had shown, and that he felt it was important for her to see a specialist right away. It was then discovered that she had early onset macular degeneration. “If Dr. Lay hadn’t taken the time to call me and make his recommendation,” Marlene says, “it could’ve gotten a lot worse.”

We’re honored to have the opportunity to share the stories and kind words of our patients with our readers.
