Most people take good vision for granted. However, if you are one of the millions of people who suffer from common refractive vision problems like nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism it can be easy to think of your prescription eyewear as merely a necessary inconvenience. Given the amount of time and money that goes into caring for eyeglasses and contact lenses, it would be nice if they could do more than bring your vision to the normal level that most people effortlessly enjoy. Many mistakenly believe that the lenses in eyeglasses are entirely determined by the prescription, and that patients only have options in their choice of frames, but this is actually far from true. The latest advancements in lens technology allow us to provide a variety of different lens features that can give your eyeglasses added functionality and help make them an even more useful part of your daily life.
Transitions® Signature® VII for Convenient Ultraviolet Protection
Exposure to ultraviolet light can damage your eyes, causing short-term damage, called photokeratitis, and potentially contributing to long-term problems like cataracts. The American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends wearing sunglasses that block out both UV-A and UV-B light, but carrying around a pair of special glasses to put on whenever you go outside can be inconvenient. Transitions® lenses remain clear while inside, but begin to darken automatically as soon as you step outside, providing 100% protection from ultraviolet light under all conditions.
Crizal Sapphire ® 360° UV to Reduce Reflections and Glare
Many eyeglass-wearers experience difficulty avoiding glare, particularly when they are in environments where light from multiple sources strikes the lenses from different angles. Not only is glare distracting, it can be potentially dangerous in circumstances where clear detail vision is important, like nighttime driving. The specialized multi-angular technology™ in the Crizal Sapphire ® 360° UV lenses reduces reflections, resulting in less distracting glare, better aesthetics, and safer nighttime driving.
Eyezen™+ to Protect Against Computer Vision Syndrome
While the lens of the eye ordinarily filters out the most damaging ultraviolet wavelengths, it does not block the visible violet and blue wavelengths that are only slightly less intense. Some believe that this intense blue wavelength light can, over time, damage the light sensitive cells that make up the retina and increase the long-term risk of age-related macular degeneration. Exposure to blue light, which is particularly prevalent in computer monitors and other digital screens, can also contribute to computer vision syndrome, considered to be one of the most wide-spread workplace ergonomic issues today. The Smart Blue Filter™ feature in the Eyezen™+ lenses significantly reduce exposure to harmful blue light and can be customized to provide different levels of relief to accommodate patients of every age group.
