Here at Georgia Eye Physicians & Surgeons, we understand that vision issues are a widespread concern for people around the world. And while we work primarily with patients here in our home state of Georgia, there are many people who suffer from treatable vision issues in countries where the opportunity or resources to address these concerns may not be available. This is why we are so proud to announce that our own Dr. William Segal was recently awarded with a certificate of appreciation by SEE International for the volunteer work he did in Honduras last spring.
SEE International is a not-for-profit organization aimed at helping to treat vision impairment and prevent avoidable blindness in countries all over the world. Their mission is to bring medical volunteers and partners together to work side-by-side with local doctors and clinics to help provide access to high-quality eye care and surgery. These local doctors use SEE International’s global volunteer network to connect with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and eye care providers. SEE International is responsible for over 600,000 sight-restoring surgeries since their mission began.
The certificate reads:
“In grateful recognition of your generosity and dedication as a volunteer committed to ending avoidable blindness. Together we served almost 30,000 individuals through our sight-restoring efforts in 2020, performing a total of 17,680 surgeries. Thanks to your invaluable support in taking action against preventable blindness, the lives of these individuals and their loved ones have been transformed forever.”
We are very grateful to SEE International for this recognition and extremely proud of Dr. Segal for all that he and his fellow volunteers helped accomplish last year. Helping our patients relieve their vision issues including cataracts is always highly rewarding, but it takes on even more meaning when treating those who are truly in need.
