Telemedicine at Georgia Eye Physicians & Surgeons
As many of our patients already know, we at Georgia Eye Physicians & Surgeons are taking every precaution we can to keep our patients, staff, and community safe during the current coronavirus / COVID-19 outbreak. During this challenging but crucial time, individuals, businesses, and medical practices like ours are being asked to help control the spread of the coronavirus by limiting person-to-person contact as much as possible. While treating COVID-19 and testing for coronavirus are outside the purview of what we’re equipped to do as an ophthalmology and optometry practice, we are doing our part to help control the virus’s spread by only physically treating essential conditions that cannot be postponed. Given the intimate nature of treating eye conditions and testing patients’ vision, we are offering HIPAA-compliant, private telemedicine appointments while the coronavirus outbreak is at its most contagious.
Georgia Eye Physicians & Surgeons is temporarily closed to patients whose procedures can wait until the virus outbreak is under control, but our doctors and staff are still hard at work. We want to stay in touch with our patients and continue to help you keep your eyes healthy, so Dr. William Segal and Dr. Marc Lay are making themselves available for telemedicine appointments while we limit in-person interactions. There are obvious limitations to this method, but we can still help you better understand and treat many eye-health concerns, such as:
- Eyelid swelling
- Medical contact lens issues
- Allergy-related eye conditions
- Minor, non-emergency eye injuries
- Pinkeye (conjunctivitis) without fever in patients over age 2
Using telemedicine with Georgia Eye Physicians & Surgeons is easy. All you need are a computer, smartphone, or tablet equipped with a microphone and camera and a decent internet connection (ideally wired via ethernet cable, but a strong WIFI or data connection should work fine). You don’t even need to download an app or any additional software—you can access our portal through your Chrome, Firefox, or Safari browser. Just follow these simple steps to get started:
- Enter doxy.me/drgaeye (for our ophthalmologist, Dr. Segal) or doxy.me/drgaeye2 (for our optometrist, Dr. Lay) into your browser’s address bar.
- Type in your name and click “Check In.”
- Allow your browser to use your camera and microphone (this will usually be asked in a pop-up dialog box, which may differ slightly among browsers).
There’s no need to register your email or sign up for an account, and your personal information and interaction with our doctors will be kept confidential and anonymous. The video conferencing platform we’re using, doxy.me, is 100% HIPAA compliant, secure, and encrypted.
